Mayra Gazel is a Turkish-American safety education activist and social entrepreneur. She earned her BA (Hons) in Fashion Communication from Condé Nast College of Fashion and Design, followed by an MS in Nonprofit Management from Columbia University, and an EdM in Education Leadership, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship, with a concentration in Early Childhood, from Harvard University.
As the Founder and Chair of Must Be Me, a UK-based charity (Registered Charity Number 1179393, England and Wales), Mayra is dedicated to making safety education accessible to young people worldwide.
She is trained in Self-Defence Instruction, Human Rights, Sexual Assault Support, Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED, Blast and Trauma First Aid, Applied Suicide Intervention, Youth Mental Health First Aid, ESG and Social Activism, and Explosive Ordinance Disposal.
During her time at Columbia University, Mayra served as President of the Nonprofit Management Student Association. At Harvard University, she served as President of the Safety Education Club, President of the Nonprofit Leadership and Philanthropy Club, a representative of the Graduate School of Education Student Council, and as a Board Member on her program's Student Advisory Board.
